Antenatal Classes for Mother and Partner

Pregnancy Essentials (18-24 weeks)

This is a brainstorming session focusing on the impact of pregnancy on a couple/family, physical changes in early pregnancy; discussing changes in mood and body as well financial implications. Our in-house physiotherapist leads part of the class offering recommendations for avoiding back problems and advice of pelvic floor exercises.

Times: 6:30 – 8:30 on a Tuesday night (once a month)

Bringing baby home (26-32 weeks)

This session focuses on the effects of bringing a baby home on the relationship with both partner, siblings and other family members. This is also suitable for second time mothers.

Peel Maternity & Family Practice is the only practice in WA that offers this class which has proven to significantly reduce the risk of depression. Not only does the session cover relationship counselling, how to manage and handle a crying baby, sex post birth and the integral role of fathers.

Times: 9:00 – 13:00 on Saturday mornings (once a month)

Preparation for childbirth (32-36 weeks)

This class focuses on the end of the pregnancy, stages of labour, types of birth, pain relief and breastfeeding.
