< STAGE 1 | STAGE 2 | STAGE 3 | VISITING SCHEDULE >
Our Visiting Schedule
First Visit 6-10 weeks
We like to see you first by 10 weeks from your last menstrual period. At this time we will take a detailed history, do a medical examination and gather results of any tests already done. To confirm dates we will perform a dating scan unless you have already had one done. We will outline how we expect to manage your pregnancy and organise any routine blood tests and FTS scan if appropriate. At this appointment the midwife will discuss with you smoking and alcohol consumption – if necessary, dietary needs during pregnancy, exercise, your screening tests and any other concerns you may want to discuss.
Second Visit 13-16 weeks
At this visit we will discuss your FTS results with you. We will check your progress and refer you for your FAS.
Third Visit 20-24 weeks
At this visit we will review your FAS results and discuss these with you, provide you with your hospital booking forms for you to register with them as a pregnant patient. At that hospital antenatal interview the midwife will review your history and create a file for you so information is available when you come to the hospital when in labour or for antenatal assessment. There is an opportunity to book for antenatal parenting classes at this appointment. The classes are either a once off Saturday or over 4 consecutive weeks. There is also an organised “Stork Walk” on set weekends for you to have a tour of the maternity unit. Also at this visit you will be given forms for blood test to check for gestational diabetes and anaemia. This screening test will be done between 26-28 weeks.
Subsequent visits
After 32 weeks, you will be booked ahead for fortnightly appointments until 36 weeks, then you will need to come in weekly until your delivery. Our aim is to book all of your visits through to term, from 28 weeks, to enable us to fit in all of your necessary visits with us and to ensure all is going well.
Throughout your pregnancy the midwives are accessible by telephone to discuss any issues that are relevant to your pregnancy. This also extends into the postnatal period when there may be breast feeding and baby issues.
Delivery
As soon as possible after delivery of your baby, please book your six - eight week check. As this appointment is at least 30 minutes in duration, you will need a double appointment for you and your baby. This appointment is necessary to make sure that yourself and baby are in good health and any issues can be resolved quickly. Please bring your Purple Book along to this appointment, and if possible, a pram or carrier to hold the baby whilst you are being examined. If you have the baby on the Medicare card, please also bring that along - and then we can bulk bill the baby's appointment.
Results Throughout your time with us, there will be a variety of tests and ultrasounds conducted, either here at the
practice or elsewhere. This is standard procedure. You do not need to ring to get these results, as if you do
not hear, everything is normal.
If there are any issues regarding your results, or any abnormalities or need for discussion, the midwife or doctor will ring you.If you do not hear, all is well. In regard to pap smears, you will get a notification letter usually by 4 weeks
